You are always hoping that movie audiences are interested in characters and interested in story values rather than just mindless special effects. But you never know.
The visual effects team works closely not only with the director but also the cinematographer.
Try to imagine many of the top films without visual effects. STAR WARS without space, spaceships, lasers. TRANSFORMERS without the Transformers. The MATRIX without bullet time and impossible physics. AVATAR without it’s world, without it’s plants and creatures
Visual effects allows filmmakers an incredible freedom to bring any story they wish to the screen from a creative and technical standpoint.
At its peak, during the making of Baahubali 2, the team swelled up to 100 artists who were working on various simulations, models, digital matte paintings, animations and set extensions related to the film. According to Pete (An Artist working on the film), the entire data generated for the film from Makuta alone is close to 110-115 terabytes.
